Who We Are
Erik T. Leighty – President
Erik’s background in the music business was formed as a member of the Student Activities Board Concert Committee while earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing at The University of Kentucky. After graduating in 1994, he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in the music business. Within a few years, he went on the road as a Tour Manager for fellow Kentuckians Exile and Ricky Skaggs, followed by jobs with Rhett Akins, The Kinley’s and BR549. After two years of continuous touring, he accepted the position as Nashville’s Senior Market Manager for DraftWorldwide, a Chicago based Marketing and Promotions Company where he handled the account for RJ Reynolds Tobacco. In the summer of 2002, his passion for the music business called Erik back to the road as Tour Manager for Chris Cagle on the Brooks & Dunn Neon Circus and Wild West Show.
In November of 2002, Erik and Rick Whetsel formed W & L Investments, L.L.C. to acquire Nashville’s legendary nightclub, the Exit/In, and also partnered to expand Rick’s existing production company, Great Big Shows. With Great Big Shows, Erik oversaw the production on such events as On The Bricks (Atlanta), Live On Penn (Washington DC), SoulFest (Atlanta), Taste of Atlanta, Atlanta JazzFest, the 2004 Virgin College Mega Tour featuring Michelle Branch, Rooney, Gavin DeGraw, Tyler Hilton and Joe Firstman, and the 2005 Virgin College Mega Tour with Cake, Gomez, and Robbers On High Street. October 2005 saw Great Big Shows take on the responsibility of booking the new Nashville venue, City Hall, a 1200 capacity multi-use venue which saw the likes of Ray LaMontagne, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, G. Love, Son Volt, Gary Allan, Staind, Shooter Jennings, and My Morning Jacket pass through. In that time, he also managed to produce concerts for several artists including Harry Connick, Jr., the Pixies, 3 Doors Down, Jason Mraz, Widespread Panic and Johnny Lang.
Erik has instituted major changes for 2006. Deciding to devote his energy and talents to production, he has resigned his position as Managing Partner at Great Big Shows to form his own company, Global E Productions. Clients Erik will retain include; Virgin Entertainment, VMT, and Integrate Marketing. First on the agenda for 2006 is the Virgin College Mega Tour, featuring Yellowcard, Mae and Over It, this year traveling with 6 buses, 4 semis, over 70 band and crew memebers, and a larger stage show than in years past.
